105 - ASME Code Compliant Phased Array Weld Inspection

The goal of the ASME Code Compliant Phased Array Weld Inspection course is to enable the operator to develop ASME phased array ultrasonic weld inspection procedures and techniques.  The course will cover interpretation of the codes and will enable the replacement of radiography with ultrasonic PA inspection.

Objectives

  • Awareness of ASME requirements for PA
  • Determination of the inspection requirements
  • Writing your company’s procedure
  • Developing the weld inspection techniques
  • Weld coverage using linear scanning techniques
  • Using sectorial scanning techniques
  • Complementing scans to ensure coverage of problematic weld regions
  • Probe selection and offset distance calculations
  • Quality data collection
  • Encoder setup and usage
  • Flaw characterization and sizing techniques
  • Review of signal interpretation
  • Reporting and presentation of findings

Suitable For

Any Level 1 or 2 UT technician who is required to perform data analysis or is tasked with procedure and technique development for ASME code required weld inspections. The benefit to the employer will be significant, as the graduate of this course will be capable of developing procedures and techniques for ASME code required NDT/NDE UT applications.

Duration

5 Day (40 hours)
50% classroom, 40% hands-on, 10% testing

Course Equipment and Materials

The OmniScan instrument, along with several selected transducers and calibration blocks, will be used to evaluate Flawtech and Sonaspection weld specimens.  Weld specimens used are both plate and pipe welds and cover a thickness range from:  12mm to 25mm and pipe radii from 152mm to 305mm.  OmniScan, TomoView and Raytrace software will be used for the course training.

Requirements for Successful Completion

A mark of 80% is required for successful completion and certification. The final pass mark is based on combined daily quiz marks and final exam.
