131 - AGR TD Phased Array & TOFD

The AGR TD Phased Array and TOFD course reveals the balance achieved as both methods are demonstrated to compliment each other. Practical exercises access a selection of engineered and actual flaw samples.  The TOFD capabilities of the AGR instrument will be examined in detail, with emphasis on technique development and ASME code case 2235 implementation.  We recommend that attendees have attained Level 2 or 3 certification in industrial ultrasonics and have a working knowledge of the AGR instrument prior to attending this course.

Objectives

  • System calibration
  • Variable parameter inputs
  • Linear and sectorial scan definitions
  • Data acquisition and interpretation
  • System linearity assessment
  • Flaw location and sizing
  • TOFD theory and applications, including:
    • Optimizing PCS and angles
    • Limitations of detection and resolution
    • Dead zone coverage
    • Encoder calibration
    • TOFD calibration and optimization
    • TOFD analysis

Suitable For

The course is designed for any Level 2 or 3 UT technician who is required to perform data analysis or is tasked with procedure and technique development.  The benefit to the employer will be significant, as the graduate of this course will be capable of analyzing, solving and reporting clear comprehensive findings for many NDT applications.

Duration

5 days (40 hours)
50% classroom, 40% hands-on, 10% testing

Course Equipment and Materials

TD Focus Scan, TD Pocket Scan and the TD Handy Scan are all available during the course. ESBeamTool is provided to enable quick and easy system configuration. The wide selection of TOFD probes and wedge angles enables students to model and validate the best combinations. The combined approach of PA and TOFD is revealed and students explore performance with the numerous samples presented for test experience. Data files are provided to challenge the student in data analysis.

Requirements for Successful Completion

A mark of 80% is required for successful completion and certification. The final pass mark is based on combined daily quiz marks and final exam. A Certificate of Completion is provided.
